Horray for costume
play! Without it, how could otakus and anime cons survive?
I have complied a list of URLs
to various Ming Ming cosplay. Please send any missing URLs my way.

Cosplay Implementation
It just had to happen.
I was thinking of cosplaying as Ming Ming for a while but I finally got
round to doing it - failing that - finally found everything I need.
Most complications were sorted
already from the making of the doll so the bun's lace and the pipecleaner
quif are the same.
I found almost everything from a market on textiles stalls. I was looking to
find gem-like, heart buttons I used for the red heart on the arm band and
the pink earrings. The rest of the armband was made from yellow ribbon and
black, velvet ribbon. I used the same black ribbon for the choker and a
wide, red ribbon or the leg band. These are attached with Velcro, and the
pouch is a small cardboard box I miraculously got on the same day when I
bought a little, crystal snake for my collection.
Then I found a pair of wool
gloves on the market but they weren't long enough nor would wool cooperate
with me cutting the petal shapes at the end of the glove. Instead I found
some red cotton, cut them to shape, then sewn them to the end of the gloves.
My hand wouldn't fit through the wrist past of the glove if I sewn the black
strips on so they're separate and are put on with Velcro.
By this time, Uggs are the knew fashion and ballet pump style shoes are
going out, so it was a good job I already had a red pair of shoes like Ming
Ming's (apart from the bows). The socks were found on the market too, only I
have to turn them down as they reach over the knee.
I looked high and low for the right dress and ended up getting this dress
from a charity shop. It was slightly long and a green-grey colour so it got
cut short and dyed. Only now the dress looks brown against proper black...
At the time of gathering the
materials it was nearing Christmas, thus it was the party season. My mum
insisted on making a tinsel wig with lammetta for the fringe but tinsel
itches and so I found the perfect wig in a nearby fancy dress shop. The lady
asked me what I wanted it for but I only confused her with the word 'cosplay'.
Like I said, the quif is a pipecleaner which is attached to a blue Alice
band (so amazing that I had a blue one). I decided to do the buns in style
and parted the wig realistically and put on bun covers made of white
material, lace and elastic. The fringe was fine how it was. This thing is,
this wig was so perfect, but there isn't enough hair to put up, plus it was
so knotty and messy (couldn't brush it because the hair would just fall
out). However, I kept at it, and clipped the wig upside down to a skirt
hanger, and hung it on my lampshade. This way, I could style the high
pigtails easily. I had to use a lot of clips to hold the buns in place, and
I had no bun nets to nestle them down while I put the white bun covers on,
so I used pop socks instead.
To finish it off I attached the
pink hearts to hook earrings with the annoying wire you get holding Barbie
dolls captive the their boxes. I insisted to get orange contacts but I'm
scared of putting things in my eyes so I settled for my own blue eyes (which
match the wig, anyway). I have realistic proportions as 'Queen', but then
again I'm short enough and have a smaller breast size to be 'Loli'.
